  The name Seventh-day Adventist highlights two distinguishing characteristics of the denomination: Seventh-day refers to Saturday, which is observed as the Sabbath, a day of delightful communication with God, Christ, the Holy Spirit and one another. Adventist refers to Adventists’ hope in Jesus’ soon return.

Ministry in the diverse Seventh-day Adventist membership in Southern California Conference is conducted within five regions, based on geographic areas or relating to preferred ethnicities: L. A. Metro, Hispanic, Asian/Pacific, African-American and West. Membership within each region reflects further cultural diversity and distinctives.

The 44,018 Seventh-day Adventists in Los Angeles County worship in 31 languages and dialects, in 127 churches under the administration of the Southern California Conference. Globally, more than twelve million baptized Seventh-day Adventist members live in 204 countries. The church operates 5,846 schools and 600 hospitals worldwide, and provides humanitarian and development aid through Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
